Top 2008-2009 Girl Baby Names

2008-2009 is a new year and that means new baby names. You might think naming a baby is easy and you would be wrong. There are lots of factors to consider with each one being equally important to the person who is doing the naming. When it comes to girl baby names, parents tend to get much more creative than with boy names. Boys, for the most part, are named after famous persons in history and Biblical figures. The names for girls are much more varied. Without any further delay, here are the top 20 girl baby names for 2008-2009.

The list features some names that you might expect and some that you might not. Emily has remained a staple baby name for girls, as it is consistently on top of the list. Brianna is one of a few names that seem to be gaining in popularity over the names that have traditionally been favorites. Overall, Biblical names for girls are not nearly as popular and as with in previous years, the names seem to be different depending upon what part of the country you are in.

There are some differences in the 2008-2009 version of this list from the 2007 list of top baby names, which can be found at the Social Security website (http://www.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/popularnames.cgi). Here is a look at the top names from 2007, per that list.

Top 2007 Girl Baby Names

1. Emily
2. Isabella

4. Ava
5. Madison
6. Sophia
7. Olivia

14. Alyssa
15. Mia
16. Chloe
17. Natalie
18. Sarah
19. Alexis
20. Grace

When taking a look at the two different lists, some noticeable differences are present. Addison seems to be one of the more popular names now as it has grown in popularity by leaps and bounds over the past year. On the opposite side of that coin, the name Hannah is losing steam, as parents seem more interested in new, trendy names for their little girls. Isabella is not nearly as popular in 2008-2009 than it was in 2007, as it fell a number of spots.
