The top baby names for boys have changed a bit in 2008-2009 from last year. There are some mainstays on the list that don’t look like they are fit to change anytime soon, but parents have done their best to get a bit more creative in 2008-2009. The list of boys’ names is still heavy with biblical references, which can be expected.

Popular Biblical name Jacob is on top of the list once again, as parents continue to choose that name more often than any other. Jacob also topped the list in 2007, but there have been some minor shakeups elsewhere within the list. The government produces a full list of the most popular baby names each year on their website. That information can be found by clicking here (http://ssa.gov/cgi-bin/popularnames.cgi).

20. Nicholas

From the lists, we can see that the name Nicholas got significantly more popular in 2008-2009, while fewer parents chose to go with the interesting “Jayden”. The names Noah and Logan also fell from grace in 2008-2009 after being prominent choices in earlier years. Always a consistent choice, Ryan remained in the same place.

From these names, we can see that parents continue to enjoy conservative, easy choices. With the exception of Jayden in the 2007 list, all of the names on these lists are common and inside the box. Many of the choices are also Biblical, meaning that parents are still imparting their religious values into the naming of their children.

Jacob and Michael don’t seem to be showing any signs of giving up the top spot anytime soon. Those names work well in both childhood and adulthood, so parents are picking up on the trend. The rest of the list is slightly more fluid, however.
