The GED test – or General Equivalency Diploma test allows adults
who left high school before graduating an opportunity to earn a high school diploma.
Those who take the GED examine must demonstrate the same degree of competency
which would have been developed after four years of high school education in
five major subject areas math, science, reading, social studies and writing.
The test is only offered at GED testing centers in each state, and not offered
online. Some online companies or online for profit institutions do offer
online testing for a highschool diploma, but these are not generally recognized
by state bodies, employers, colleges and so forth.
There are hundreds of GED testing centers throughout the US. Those
interested in registering for the GED at the test center in their area
generally call the center and schedule a time to take the test. The GED test cost is usually between $60 and
$120, depending on the state, which includes both GED testing and the
certificate of completion. Individuals
must bring a photo I.D. and at least two other pieces of ID. Nothing can be brought into the test in the
way of notes or books.
The GED Testing Service allows people to take the GED up to
three times each year. General Equivalency Diploma Test scores remain valid for
three years from the date of the first GED test taken. Upon passing the test, you earn a General
Equivalency Diploma. The GED is administered by the American Council of
Education (ACE).
There are many online GED prep
practice sites which help you become ready to successfully pass the GED
test. But the GED test itself must be taken in person, at a GED test
center. There are several in each state. Some online companies
offer High school diplomas online. However, these are seldom recognized
by state education boards, colleges, universities and employers, so
take care to make sure such an online high school diploma provides what
you are looking for (and read all the fine print) before paying for one.

In the near future, we'll figure out how to package basic knowledge in pill form.
A student, needing some learning, goes to the pharmacy and asks what
kind of knowledge pills are available. The pharmacist says "Here's a
pill for English literature." The student takes the pill and swallows
it and has new knowledge about English literature!
"What else do you have?" asks the student.
"Well, I have pills for art history, biology, and world history," replies the pharmacist.
The student asks for these, and swallows them and has new knowledge about those subjects.
Then the student asks, "Do you have a pill for math?"
The pharmacist says "Wait just a moment", and goes back into the
storeroom and brings back a whopper of a pill and plunks it on the
counter.
"I have to take that huge pill for math?" inquires the student.
The pharmacist replied "Well, you know ... math always was a little hard to swallow."
